R Baby’s Sim-Mobile Goes International

SIM-training-CaymanThrough funds raised in the Cayman and Jamaican Islands through GAIM, R Baby’s Sim-Mobile facilitated a group of Pediatric Emergency Medicine doctors, nurses and paramedics from across the US to conduct the Cayman Islands Pediatric Emergency Simulation Course May 14-17, 2013.

Led by Dr. Marc Auerbach of Yale University, the course was developed to meet the specific needs of the locale with dangerous, rare cases that require life saving interventions such as drowning, poisonings, and trauma. Simulating these incidents in a no risk setting provides invaluable experience these doctors would otherwise not have.

Over 72 medical participants from Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Jamaica gathered to collaborate and experience multi-fidelity pediatric simulation with over 25 simulation scenarios conducted over the two-day course. The goal was for the nurse and physician providers to recognize, treat, and manage a variety of pediatric emergencies in a safe but realistic setting. In addition, a website has been created to continue a bidirectional relationship between the Caymans and Jamaica and R Baby to address ongoing pediatric education needs. The course received national press on the radio and the newspaper in the Caymans.
